Job Summary
SHIFT: 7:00am - 5:30pm, 4, 10-hour days a week (Monday - Friday), 3 weekend days out of a 8-week timeframe. Call requirements
The Cardiac Sonographer 3 ensures imaging compliance with all regulatory agencies. They achieve quality standards for echocardiography departments. Provides advanced echocardiography services to patients. Acts as a mentor to Cardiac Sonographers.
Essential Functions of the Role
Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including cardiac findings and lab data. Adapts imaging techniques to obtain diagnostic echocardiograms and reduce errors.
Serves as a mentor to students, technical staff, and fellows. Acts as a technical resource and guide for echo performance and reporting. Provides critical feedback and technical guidance in a structured format.
Examines, implements, and monitors quality improvement initiatives. Collaborates with the quality team to coordinate and implement quality standards. Manages improvement projects.
Assists in the preparation of CQI meetings. Assists in developing/revising protocols/procedures, case study presentations and lecturing/teaching according to developed curriculum.
Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Makes necessary measurements for accurate, high-quality results.
Identifies and defines cardiac abnormalities. Extends the examination scope appropriately. Deviates from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies. This aids them in complex procedures to decrease risk factors. Assists in performing transesophageal studies with a cardiologist, calculating measurements, and sterilizing probes.
Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
Acts as a resource to staff, physicians, and students about equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care. Works closely with other sonographers to ensure adherence to quality processes and protocols.
Assists with ICAEL accreditation activities as delegated. Implements protocols as new technology evolves. Ensures implementation and adherence to system echocardiography standards.
Interprets basic to advanced echocardiography exams, working closely with cardiologists.
Key Success Factors
Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography within two years.
Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques.
Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
Ability explaining the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to the patient and answering patients' questions.
Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state requirements relating to accreditation standards for Echocardiography.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses.
Skilled utilization of computers and medical equipment.
Possess exceptional critical skills and can create charts, graphs, and presentations using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Stay informed about innovation in medical imaging technology, safety-minded products, and current practice issues and trends in related fields.

EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
EXPERIENCE - 4 Years of Experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
Adv Cardiac Sonographer (ACS)
Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
