Job Summary:

The Anesthesia Technician is an integral member of the anesthesia patient care team who works under the Department of Anesthesiology to assist the anesthesia providers in various settings by providing support for routine surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technician reports to the Sr Director, Surgical Services and the Director of Anesthesiology.

Responsibilities:

• Assist anesthesiologist/CRNA/Resident/as requested, as long as within scope of practice. May be clinical.
• Assist with anesthesia case set up.
• Clean and restock OR carts.
• Performs simple maintenance on anesthesia equipment.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment, cleaning, storage, uses.
• Ensuresanesthesia equipment and supplies are present and up to date.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment, cleaning, storage, uses.

• Other responsibilities as directed by anesthesia providers. May include clinical duties.

• Use and care of physiological monitors relating to the administration of anesthesia.
• Biologic hazards, infection control, and standard precautions.
• Fire, electrical, laser and explosion hazards in the operating room and other anesthesia related areas.
• Storage, use and safe handling of bulk and cylinder gases.
• Structure, function and care of all components of anesthesia delivery systems.
• Trouble shooting anesthesia delivery systems and monitoring equipment.
• Sterile technique and the principals of aseptic practice.
• Usage of common anesthetic gases.
• Principles of purchasing and supply levels.
• Communication skills.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a hospital operating room preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment and supplies, required.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent, required
