The Department of Anesthesiology at UAMS is seeking a Cardiac Anesthesia Division Chief. The ideal candidate will be Board Certified in Anesthesiology and fellowship trained in cardiac anesthesia, and will exhibit the leadership skills necessary for optimizing clinical protocols, recruiting and developing the faculty, and educating and inspiring the next generation of anesthesiologists. Cases include open and endoscopic CABG, percutaneous coronary interventions, complex valve replacement, TAVR, mitral clip, atrial appendage occlusion, aortic surgery, and mechanical circulatory support including ECMO. Perioperative care is provided in a dedicated CV ICU staffed by anesthesiology intensivists. The team is actively working towards VADs and heart transplantation, with a 3-5 year plan to add lung transplantation as well.

BC/BE by the ABA, fellowship trained in cardiac anesthesia, and NBME certified in echocardiography. The Department does sponsor qualified candidates for the ABA Alternate Entry Pathway. The candidate must be eligible for an Arkansas medical license. Academic rank and pathway will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and career goals.
UAMS is the State’s only Adult Level I Trauma Center and its only University Hospital. The Division of Cardiac Anesthesia is tasked with caring for some of the most complex patients in Arkansas. The Cardiac Anesthesia Division is growing to meet the healthcare needs of the state and support the educational and scholarly needs of the University.
