Uses ultrasound to visualize cardiac structures and great vessels, evaluate the structure and function of the heart and completely define any recognized abnormalities. Assists the physician with complex ultrasound procedures including stress echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiograms and pericardiocentesis procedures. Performs peripheral vascular ultrasound exams as competency allows.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform echocardiograms per protocol
Provide patient and family education
Expand scope of examination according to any abnormalities observed or suspected.
Notify appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.
Enter patient identification information into the ultrasound unit.
Obtain patient clinical information from the patient, medical record and physician to verify indications for echocardiography.
Select the appropriate transducer and machine settings for optimal visualization and evaluation of structures.
Position patient to optimally visualize cardiac structures.
Assist the physician with transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiograms and pericardiocentesis procedures. Perform peripheral vascular ultrasound as competency allows.
Maintains records of all procedures performed, sends reports to requesting physicians and archives patient examinations.
Operate equipment safely and correctly. Inspect ultrasound equipment daily to ensure it is operating effectively. Reports any malfunctions.
Clean exam rooms and equipment between patients and at the end of the day.
Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

High School graduate or equivalent.
Current ARDMS or CCI credential in echocardiography
